An Important Announcement Regarding Resistance Reads Podcast

Hello all,

Matt Wellstrom and I have now aired 22 episodes of our series Resistance Reads. And Recently Matt and I had a serious conversation about the future of the show.

This show has been an incredible passion project of ours and I look forward to every single time we sit down on that couch and discuss books. Even when we didn’t like the book, the discussion is something I absolutely love.

So we’ve been doing a lot of thinking and the result of that conversation was that we have decided not only continue on with the show, but that we want to expand the show to include a new series, Resistance Reels, a show about power and resistance through film and TV. We have so many amazing movies that we want to cover in addition to the books.

We really want to build a community around the show and create conversations about how to resist oppressive systems, because the truth is, with everything happening in the world we need to defend our rights and our democratic systems and art can help us do that.

But, we decided that given how much work it is just to do a new book every 3 weeks for Resistance Reads and now, this show once a month, that we really need to start treating the show as something more than a hobby, but to treat it something more akin to a job.

So today, we launched a Patreon Page and our very first Episode of Resistance Reels. The very first episode of Resistance Reels is Free and Live on YouTube. The Patreon page will have three levels for subscriptions and will include bonus discussions from Resistance Reads, The second show, Resistance Reels, and a Non Fiction Book Club where we host a live discussion of key passages and chapters from Non-Fiction books about Power and Resistance.

We want to help you find all the tools you need to helping making this world more democratic. And as always, Resistance Reads itself will remain totally free and open to anyone and, if you’re so inclined you can join us for our live streams and become part of the discussion in the chat.

Thanks to all of those of you who watch or listen to our show!

Resistance Reads and Literatura Obscura

Greetings all,

I’ve been a bit silent since I launched Shades & Shapes in the Dark. That’s largely because I’m busy working on both the Audiobook edition (it’s an enormous amount of work but about 3/4ths done) and the sequel Through and Endless Darkness Gleaming!

But there’s something else I’ve been working on. Some of you may already know about my podcast with Matt Wellstrom, Resistance Reads (the link will take you to past episodes on all your favorite services) but, at a party recently I was asked to do another book based podcast. The name that Athena Huff-Sandstrom and I came up with was Literatura Obscura. This podcast focuses on strange, unusual, or lesser known fiction.

We will be launching the first episode live on YouTube on July 9th with the book, The House of Leaves, an horror novel about… well… it’s a bit difficult to describe but it’s definitely unusual.

Episode 5 of Resistance Reads airs live on YouTube on July 6th and will cover the classic John Steinbeck novel, The Grapes of Wrath. We love it when people join us for the live stream.

A New Podcast and Preorder for Shades & Shapes in the Dark!

Hey everybody,

I have two pieces of news for you. The first is that the preorder for Shades & Shapes in the Dark has launched! You can preorder the ebook version from your favorite online store or you can preorder the paperback from Barnes & Noble at this link.

Want to get the book early and for free? I’m looking for 17 more Advanced Review Copy (ARC) readers. Basically, you let me know you want a copy by commenting below or shooting me an email and I’ll send you a copy in exchange for an honest review (yes even if you hate it).

The second piece of news is that me and my good friend Matt Wellstrom are launching a brand new podcast called, Resistance Reads. The podcast will explore the concepts of power and resistances through literature. Our inaugural episode will cover George Orwell’s classic novel 1984.

You can join us at the livestream here on April 19th at 11am MDT out of Denver. https://youtube.com/live/AqlLzQvCBBU?feature=share You can also watch the replay at the same link. Come join our discussion and ask your questions!
